Mon Calamari Shipyards
Having been relatively isolated from the Republic and
Empire, the Mon Calamari's vessels were originally meant for
exploration of surrounding star systems. However, when the
Empire attempted to bring their planet under its control,
the Calamari converted it's well-built craft to very capable
warships. The Mon Calamari eventually joined the Alliance
and New Republic, and their contributions of warships gave
them significant influence in those organizations.
Warships
of the Mon Calamari lists more ships that were probably
designed or manufactured by the Calamari.
Home One
|
Home One was Admiral Ackbar's flagship during
the Battle of Endor. It most likely represents an
entire class of Calamari warships, since we've seen
identical ships at the aforementioned and other
battles. The cylinder-shaped Home One is
significantly larger than most Calamari ships we've
seen, and possesses several unusual external
pod-like structures (which might be sensors,
bridges, or command centers).

MC40a Star Cruiser
|
The MC40a is one of the smaller Mon Calamari
ships; it's less than half as long as the MC80 and
other common designs. It most likely serves as a
destroyer or support ship, or a downscaled cruiser.

MC80 Star Cruiser
|
Among the most common Mon Calamari ships, the
MC80 was designed before the planet joined the
Alliance. Thus, even the navalized version of these
ships are best suited for a Calamari crew, and
resemble the explorer vessels they once were.
Nonetheless, due to their renowned sturdiness,
MC80s can easily take on many larger and more
powerful warships.
The MC80 may have been one
of the ship types seen in the movie, although it is
not known which one. Besides Home One, there were
two cruiser designs, one with wings and one
without. The Essential Guide to Vehicles and
Vessels shows the
winged one to be the MC80, but this is not
necessarily accurate.

The MC80a is apparently just a newer version of
the MC80, with a different hull design but similar
capabilities.

MC80B Star Cruiser
|
The Mon Calamari introduced the MC80B several
months after the Battle of Endor as an intermediate
between the MC80 and upcoming MC90. The MC80B still
resembles the older ships, but is more suited to a
role as a warship. It is slightly faster than
previous Calamari designs, but the first versions
had limited fighter-carrying capability.

MC90 Star Cruiser
|
Although it's not especially apparent, the MC90
is the first Calamari ship designed exclusively as
a naval ship. Although the general design is
similar to past vessels, there are several internal
changes, including heavier weapons and
species-independent controls.
